Drain Cleaning

Clogged drains is not only an uncomfortable thing to deal with, but it also can cause damage to your health and real property. “Mom, water is not going down the drain,” you may hear from your kids, and that’s no fun.

Causes

1. For the most part, drain clogs result when dirt or other components such as hair binds, skin flakes, etc. adhere to the walls of the drain. When they accumulate, water flow will reduce.

2. Cooking oil, grease, or undissolved food particles. They also adhere to the drain walls causing your drain to smell bad and clog.

3. When throwing to the drain items that do not undissolved or break apart in water such as: hygiene products, dental floss, or wipes.

How to prevent it?

You can always try and do it yourself first. Here’s how:

  1. Make a schedule and clean drain stoppers every now and then. That will prevent dirt or any other components to accumulate on the walls.
  2. For kitchen sinks, always use food traps to stop food waste go down the drain.
  3. For toilets, don’t try to flush things that will not break apart or are ready to dissolve in water. If they take too long to dissolve in water, it will cause you a problem.

How to fix clogged drains?

Not all drain clogs need professional assistance, so you can try fixing it yourself before calling for help.

  1. Start by pouring boiling water on the drain.
  2. Next, pour 1 cup of baking soda and 1 cup of vinegar/water solution (baking soda and vinegar combined with hot water act as natural drain cleaners).
  3. Wait around 5-10 minutes.
  4. Pour boiling water again (this will help to clean the soda and vinegar from the pipes).

With toilets, you can always use a plunger.
